NYSW 4-6-0 #963 - New York, Susquehanna & Western |
Description: |
Sharp looking photo by an unknown photographer of the NYSW 4-6-0 ten wheeler #963. Originally built by Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin predecessor) in 1904 for the Erie RR, it was leased from the Erie and eventually purchased in December of 1944. The Erie shops had rebuilt this loco in 1923 by superheating it, changing to smaller drivers and increasing cylinder size to improve overall performance and tractive effort. This loco and its two other sisters, #953 & 969, that were sold to the NYSW served a short time before being retired in the fall of 1945. The date of the photo is approximate as none was given. |
